Dog apparel comes in a very limited size range and there is a
significant difference between sizes. The item may be larger or smaller fitting on your dog
depending where on the size range they fall. Never assume that because
you have a small dog they will take a small size.
Different manufacturers have different sizes. Each of our dog collars, harnesses and clothing items list a size chart for that item only. We include girth, neck measurement and sometimes body length to help you choose the correct size. Please read each size chart carefully as most mistakes are made when measurements are not done or only one measurement is used.
For clothing it is recommended you
fit the girth first and length second as many of the fabrics have no stretch and
if the girth is too small you will not be able to close the garment. Do not order an item with a girth measurement that is
smaller than your dog.
Measure Your Dog with a Measuring Tape
Use a flexible tape measure to ensure an accurate reading.
Neck – Measure the neck length as you would for a collar. Allow some leeway for a comfortable fit.
Chest - Measure the chest at its widest point, which is typically right behind the front legs.
Body Length
- Measure along the dog's backbone from the base of the head to the
base of the tail. This is from the base where the collar rests to where
the tail is attached.
If neck, chest and body length measurements are given, take into
account all measurements and purchase the item that best encompasses
all measurements.
If your dog is stocky, has a thick coat, broader chest or is at the maximum for the size chart you may want to go up to the
next larger size for a looser fit. Please note the next size up will fit up to
the largest size range listed. For long backed dogs such as a Dachshund it is
recommended you fit the chest girth first.
